Project: 2nd Chance...
Yup, 2nd chance... That's what I'm giving this '67 122s. The main reason I bought it was to save it from it's former owner... Think gigantic aluminum tranny tunnel just to fit an M41, a suicide opening hood using a house door hinge welded to the front, shortened clutch/brake pedal so you can reach the gas pedal around the massive tunnel, sweet aftermarket 3rd brake light that uses a twig to hold it in the window, a black metal tube as a rear bumper, exhaust with a cherry bomb that exits under the middle of the car (sucking fumes yay!), riveted in headlights, and the list can go on and on...
I've rebuilt the steering system, tore out the beastly trans tunnel (my god that was insane...), tossed in full length pedals, got some parking lights working in the back (don't quite have brake lights yet though), had a real exhaust welded on, and got the tranny most of the way out. The M41 it came with has a shot 4th synchro so it's a paperweight at this point. Anyway, have a 4-spd w/ the longer driveshaft and some other misc stuff in the trunk waiting to go in. Once I get that stuff taken care of I'll start driving it daily and just fix whatever it needs along the way.
Once I get out of this apt and in to a house in June I'll probably tear it down to a shell and really start the project.

Here's a few pics I just snapped off real quick... Trying to get the horn working so don't think all that ugly on the column is normal.
Been getting a lot of stuff done lately since the weather is nice again... Almost ready to hit the road.

That looks like an awesome project! The body looks perfect, and the wheels make it look nasty (in a good way). Thanks for sharing

This thing looks mean. Good luck with the interior though

Re: Project: 2nd Chance...
Well the body is hit and miss... The passenger door has quite a bit of filler on it, enough to where it's cracking apart. I'll get it all handled when I strip it down next year though. No big deal...
The interior... Probably gonna grab some BMW e30 seats or something like that. Rear seat is coming out tomorrow (indefinately) in prep for a Ford 9", a rework of the 4-link to accommodate longer / more parallel bars with rod ends, and mini-tubs. Still undecided about how I'm going to work the lateral stability, most likely a watts link...

I saw another one of these oldies sitting in a driveway in San Jose recently. Don't remember where it is now though. I always am looking for Volvo coops

Re: Project: 2nd Chance...
Started getting some of the 4-link stuff together... Ordered all the joints anyway.

http://www.currieenterprises.com/cestore/johnnyjoints.aspx
These looked like a much better option than the standard heim joints and about the same price as well.
Now I'm on the hunt for a Ford 8.8" w/ LSD out of a newer Explorer...

Re: Project: 2nd Chance...
Sent those Johnny joints back, think they'll be a little big for this car... Ordered up a set of QA1 chromoly heim joints instead. I just hope they'll stand up to the street abuse.
Also got some mock up 15x10 wheels so I can set the rear frame rails in the right spot. 3.5" backspacing on these so the lip is insane.

Re: Project: 2nd Chance...
Lip is the outside of the wheel (the dish), 6.5" of it on these. Will be more like 8" on the steelies I plan to run when it's finished. Size matters!

Re: Project: 2nd Chance...
And again... I sent the heim joints back for some poly bushings instead. They're the same mounting width and thread pitch as the Johnny Joints so if I feel like upgrading later it'll be a simple swap. Everything else I'll be getting from school and the junk yard so updates will be few for now...
